The grinding work
How deep do you grind a stump?
Four to eight inches below grade covers most residential stumps, which is enough to sod or seed over the spot. Where a stump sits next to concrete or a shallow sprinkler line we may go shallower on that side and explain why first.
Is grinding the same as stump removal?
For nearly every yard, yes. Grinding removes the stump and the flare below the surface so nothing shows and nothing regrows from it. Digging out a root ball removes more wood but tears up a much larger area of lawn.
How long does a stump take?
A single average yard stump is often finished in under an hour, including cleanup. Very large stumps, several stumps, or a long walk from the street take longer. We give you a realistic window when we talk about the job.
What if the stump is old and rotten?
Soft, punky stumps grind quickly, but decay often holds grit and rock that is harder on the teeth than clean wood. It is still routine work — just worth mentioning when you call.

Access and your yard
Can you grind a stump in my backyard?
Usually. Our equipment is sized to fit through a standard gate opening, so fenced backyards are routine rather than a special request. A photo of the gate and the path to the stump lets us confirm access before we come out.
What about sprinklers and buried lines?
We locate sprinkler heads, lines and any utility markings before grinding starts, and adjust depth near them. Older Logan yards often have shallow lines and buried rock near mature trees, so we probe and look first.
Can you grind close to a sidewalk or driveway?
Yes, carefully. We work down to turf level and stop short of the concrete edge so the wheel never contacts it. If a root has already lifted a slab, grinding the wood will not lower the concrete — that is a concrete repair, and we tell you rather than sell grinding that will not fix it.

Cleanup and afterwards
Do you clean up the grindings?
Yes. Chips and soil are either raked back into the hole and tamped level, or loaded up and hauled away when you plan to plant there. Either way the lawn is left walkable, not buried in debris.
Can I plant grass or a new tree where the stump was?
Usually yes, once the hole is backfilled with topsoil rather than only wood chips. Chips break down slowly and pull nitrogen from the soil, so for a new lawn or tree we recommend hauling the grindings off and filling with soil.
What affects the cost of a stump job?
Diameter at the root flare, how many stumps there are, the depth you need, access, and whether grindings stay or go. Rock and buried debris slow the work too. We give you the price once we understand those details.

What areas do you serve?
We work across Cache Valley, including Logan, North Logan, Providence, Hyde Park, Smithfield, River Heights, Millville, Nibley, Hyrum, Wellsville, Mendon, Richmond and the surrounding towns. This is a mobile service — we bring the grinder to your property.
Do you handle several stumps at once?
Yes, and it is usually the cheaper way to do it. Setup and travel get spread across the whole job, so a row of stumps from one tree removal costs less per stump than three separate visits.
